Each year, firms receive an experience rating adjustment for each classification unit (CU) on their account1. A given year’s experience rating calculation is based on the payrolls and costs associated with its most recently completed three years (referred to as the three year window), combined with the firm's overall history. For example, the three year window in the 2022 experience rating calculation is based on the payroll figures and costs associated with claims that occurred in the years 2018, 2019 and 2020 for a given classification.
 
1Commercial fishing CUs 702005, 702006, 702007, 702008, 702009, 702010 are excluded from experience rating.
